Birthday Bash

Well, this weekend was dedicated to my husband seeing as his birthday is tomorrow. We had a nice BBQ on Saturday & went to shoot all our guns on Sunday with some friends. Yes, I know how to shoot—no I’m not Anny Oakley but I’m ok at it, I even have my own little pink 22 hand gun. D’awww!!! So yeah, I didn’t get ANY art finished or even started over the weekend seeing as I was preoccupied or otherwise sleeping. Something I’ve found is I get tired like THAT *snaps for effect* I get SO darn sleepy that I take naps at random. XD I was even getting tired at the outdoor gun range with all the shooting & almost nodded off in my chair (I was not handling a gun at the time) Tomorrow we’re going to go see Transformers on his birthday! Whoot! I can’t wait! I’ve wanted to see all the machines—it’s so much fun to watch.

Baby Update

It’s still a few cells I’m sure! BAHAHAHAHA! Though yesterday my husband & I went to Target & were gawking at how expensive baby crap is. I found a jumper that had a huge peace sign on it & LOVED it along with some small overalls which I’ll enjoy helping my little one get them covered in paint. I’m going to be walking hand-in-hand with my toddler in matching paint-covered overalls. LOLZ!!!! So yeah—I’m already thinking up projects to do with the little guy or girl. I’m not freaking out though… Like some ladies they go nuts & register everywhere & get that dewy look in their eyes to soak up all the attention. Yeah, it’s cool. Yeah, I’m going to swell up huge like a whale & try to eat everything. But really my main concern is if I’m going to be a good parent & also the fact I don’t want to become overly absorbed in the kid. Sounds strange I know but its true—mothers tend to lose themselves in their offspring. Well, we’ll see how this baby fries & scrambles my brains & you can decide!!!

Cool Things I’ve Tried

I used tin foil as a texture additive for some paintings! REALLY cool in layering up the texture. They kind of looked like mountain ranges that you see on a 3D map & its fun to paint over. I also went & got a TON of Acrylic Mediums! ZOMG if you haven’t tried them GO GET THEM!!!! They are SO damned fun to play with I feel like I’m in heaven. I got this book from Amazon that explained all the Acrylic Mediums to me & have been just going crazy with them in the garage studio. Plus the Hobby store I buy my supplies from was having a sale & I bought a shit-load of mediums to try so I have yet to get them all on canvas or whatever else. They are simply FUN & if you’ve never tried them I highly recommend you go get some & mix it with your paint & go to town playing b/c you will have a ball! I’m still trying to figure out color & abstracts but it’s been so much fun as I go. So the art has fallen to the way-side for the past few days but will return! I’m not giving up THAT easily. No way. I have several pinups to get started that I promised to people & I’m going to finish those soon. Then I’m going to spend some time working on some page layouts for comics, I’m not very good @ these so any tips would be greatly appreciated right now. My biggest heart burn issue is layout—I have no idea how to layout a page for comics. That & background issues, I’m not good at drawing backgrounds to save my life but I’ll figure it all out. I know there was a news article on dA about it but can’t find the article right now? Hrm…. I’ll have to do some more digging & just try. If anything is worth posting I’ll post it up for you guys.

NOW GO DRAW!

Rofl, the pink .22 cracks me up. I haven't been to a range in a decade though. It's also cute/fun reading about your thoughts on the approaching little one... and yeah, good to pay attention to a child, bad to meld everything, are going to be two individuals too =)

And very cool on the playing with mediums, when I get the chance I want to do the same. For the comics, haven't ever found something that does a really good job of talking about layout... so I've taken to just finding good comics and thinking about what they're doing. Manga, is actually a funky resource to look at because they often have some unique/interesting layout ideas, though they sometimes get confusing. What sort of comic are you looking to make? Maybe I can recommend some comics in a similar genre to look at.

As for backgrounds, the Loomis book that has composition urm... I forget the exact title, but I can slide you a copy if you'd like. My thought is that each frame is still it's own distinct composition or you can treat the whole page as such, depending on what you're doing... haven't seen anything to contradict that. =)

Pink... O_O This is new. I didn't know such stuff exists.
But good to hear you're having a good time. =^^= And... Gah, wanted to congratulate you via skype but couldn't get a hold of you... T.T Dammit. In that case here:
CONGRATS!
And that kidlet will be sure to have creative parents. :D Only the best: Gamers and Artist. What could be better!?

I KNOW our child is going to be SO warped! XD I was worried that I might've scared you with the news. Some are taking it great & others are a bit scared of the news--I'm guessing it all depends on preference.
But anyway we are already planning what we want to dress our kidlet as for Halloween! BAHAHAHAHA! We're sick

VERY good suggestions. I have a TON of manga & grew up reading comics like Gen 13, Wildcats, & Spiderman. To name a few. I really like the way manga paces itself, manga is a FAST read & yeah--I completely agree the layouts can get confusin but if it's done well it's brilliant you know? I feel Manga tkaes more risks with their layouts seeing as they are working strictly in black & white. I see some comics are merging the risk factors into their comics here in the US as well. & FRENCH comics are... WOW... Stunning, the art, the layouts the dynamic posing. I've seen so many great layouts from French artists.
So really I don't know--I'm limited in what I can do. I'm new to this so I don't want to start this attempt with a whole story or epic tale--I'm going to start simply to try & get a small bit across. I was thinking of creating like one pagers, some non-speaking others with a few speaking lines but nothing over-the-top. Eventually I would like to create my own Manga/comic--kind of blend them toegether if that makes sense. I think my style does that anyway.

As for the kidlet? Yeah... I don't want to lose myself in the little one--it's so EASY to do but I have a feeling that I'll still be strongly me. I keep telling myself there are plenty of strong women who have their children & pursue their dreams too. I can do it as well. SUPER MOM!!!

Agree certainly... And hrrm, haven't seen any of the French comics, but I've been told the Daredevil one's in the US are amazing, especially the characters, but I haven't seen them myself. Am curious to see the French though from your description, have some names to check out maybe?

And yeah, definitely a good idea to start out small and work up, get a feel for it. I'm not sure one page shots would give a great deal of ability to express deeper stories, but maybe a few page short stories or scense would work? And I getcha certainly, since I have similar ideas in mind =) Though I seem to struggle with the manga style hehe.

And hells yes, kids does not mean the end of one's life, just the beginning of anothers. Just someone to share the dreams with and to help them with their own dreams and share them =)

I don't know any names of them seeing as I don't speak French but let me see...[link] amazing!!! [link] fan art of a French comic. & there are many here on dA. Sadly, I can't read them b/c I don't understand French but I look @ the pictures.

Hrm, snooped around and looked at those links, very interesting. I like the style, it almost seems like a saturated/limited palette style that combines manga and north american styles. Definitely vibrant, very cool, thanks for sharing it =)

Hehe and yeah, I can't read it either =P Not anymore.

Nah, just because I'm no fan of children does not mean I want others to be just like me. ^^ don't worry. And... there is nothing more important than the right Halloween costume!! *very serious nod*

We were thinking of dressing our kid in a straight jacket for halloween & seeing them try to get out of it.... Yeah, we're REALLY sick parents... *chuckles*
